LEADERSHIP GRANVILLE

In a program designed to offer a formalized leadership development course, the Granville County Chamber of Commerce, Granville County Schools, and Vance-Granville Community College have joined forces to present Leadership Granville.

The program offers citizens of Granville County the opportunity to acquire knowledge of the community and develop leadership potential.  It offers new citizens an opportunity to become personally and professionally acquainted with county structure and life, which can benefit their present and future leadership.

OBJECTIVES

         Select highly-qualified, potential, and emerging leaders who are most likely to give to the community.

   Include participants from various sectors of the community to establish a network for future communication and understanding.

   Provide leadership skill training, i.e., problem solving, group dynamics, future planning, etc.

   Study community issues, perspectives, and functions.

   Create direct lines of communication between participants and existing community leaders.

   Communicate the benefits of Leadership Granville to the community.

CLASS OF 2008-09

Leadership Granville's Steering Committee is busy planning sessions for the upcoming year's program.  Sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, Granville County Schools and Vance-Granville Community College, the program offers citizens the opportunity to acquire knowledge of the community and develop leadership potential.

Sessions are held from mid-September until early April.  They include program topics such as:  leadership assessment; history; agriculture; county, city, state and national governments; human relations; human services; health services; small business tour; arts; education; judicial system; northern and southern Granville tours.

Applications are reviewed by a selection committee so participants represent a cross-section of interested, motivated and committed participants from all segments of the community.  Interested persons should contact the Chamber for information and registration form.

This year the Steering Committee is being led by Debra Weary, Chairman (Granville County Economic Development Commission); Donna Hosch, Vice-Chairman (City of Oxford); Annie Nesbitt, Secretary (Granville Health System); George Summers, Treasurer (retired) and Eleanor Fowler, Facilitator (retired).  Committee members are:  Kathy Arrington (retired), Jo Ann Averette (Granville County Clerk of Court), Charles Easton (Granville County Cattlemen's Association), Gus Gillespie (Granville County Schools), Hubert Gooch (Granville County Commissioners), Monique Powell (Vance-Granville Community College), Cecilia Wheeler (Vance-Granville Community College/South Campus), Jim Wrenn (Hopper, Hicks & Wrenn, LLP and Ginnie Currin, Granville County Chamber of Commerce.
